Michael E. Yancey Sphinx-man Scholarship Endowment

Scholarship support for SIUE students pursuing a degree at SIUE. Criteria for selection is as follows:

• First-generation college student
• GPA between 2.4 and 2.9
• Submit a 300-word biographical essay
• Provide one letter of reference from a volunteer community service agency
• Provide two letters of reference from clergy, employer, sports coach, academic advisor, counselor or teacher etc. – no immediate family members
• Must be in second year of college

Priority till be given to students of African American or Native American descent.

Recipients will be chosen by a committee appointed by the Dean of the Library which shall include a yearly invitation for alumni representatives and/or SIUE faculty advisors from both Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority to serve on the committee (must include 3 African Americans).
