SIUE Thomas D. Bouman Memorial Research Scholar Award

This fund serves as a memorial fund for Thomas D. Bouman and provides financial support to academically talented students in the area of research. Recipients will be selected by the particular year’s panel of judges. Panel judges will be chosen by the Chair of the Chemistry Department in conjunction with the Student Assessment and Standards Committee and may include alumni who are employed in academia or in industry, chemistry faculty from local colleges and universities, individuals who have degrees in Chemistry and significant experience in academia or industry and, if necessary, Chemistry faculty who do not have research students presenting in the category for which they will serve as judges.

1) One or more awards of at least $100 will be given to the award recipients selected under the guidelines outlined below. The preferred amount, if funds allow, will be $1,000 per award.
2) Competition will be open to all participants in the annual student research symposium in the Department of Chemistry, in conjunction with the annual Probst Lecture
3) If funds allow, two undergraduate award recipients will be selected. If not enough funds are available, awards shall be evenly distributed between undergraduate and graduate students.
4) In the event the Department of Chemistry does not hold a student research symposium, the award will be made to student researchers in the SIUE Department of Chemistry selected by faculty in the department who belong to the Student Assessments and Standards Committee.
