Maria Ruth Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship support for SIUE students majoring in Environmental Science. Criteria for selection is as follows:

• Junior or Senior majoring in Environmental Science
• GPA of 3.0 or above
• Must agree to volunteer a total of 75 hours throughout the year at the SIUE Gardens
• Must complete a project for the SIUE Gardens throughout the year with a focus on educational outreach and directed to the local community (Work on the project counts toward volunteer hours)
• Must submit a 500 word minimum letter or a 3 minute minimum video explaining why the SIUE Gardens are important to them and how they can help the Gardens as Environmental Science Majors

Preference will be given to students who have volunteered at the SIUE Gardens in the past, however, all students are encouraged to apply. Recipients may keep the scholarship for a maximum of two years if all requirements are met and maintained.

The amount of the scholarship will be dependent on funds available but shall not be less than $1,000. Recipients will be chosen by a committee comprised of Environmental Science Faculty determined by the Chair of the Department and Advisory Board members of the SIUE Gardens.
