Gordon D. Bush Political Science Scholarship

Scholarship support to recognize SIUE students majoring in Political Science. Criteria for selection is as follows:

  • Full-time junior level student
  • Major in Political Science
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Essay on urban politics – topic to be announced at the beginning of each fall semester and selected/graded by Chair of the Department of Political Science.

The amount of the award is anticipated to be $500 but shall be dependent on funds available and may be used for tuition or applied to educational costs. Awardee will be recognized at the Honors Day Convocation. Recipients will be chosen by a committee established by the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.

The recipient(s) of this scholarship will be chosen by a committee established by the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. The recipient(s) will be chosen based on consideration of the following criteria: full-time junior level student majoring in Political Science; GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must submit an essay on an urban politics topic.

The 2024-25 topic is “Race relations have been a longstanding issue in American politics. What should elected officials do to address this issue and improve race relations in the United States?” This essay should be 1,000 words in length, and should be typed in 12-pt font. The essay must contain appropriately cited references and citations using either the APSA, MLA, APA, or Chicago styles. Page numbers and an essay title should also be included.
