Evelyn Bowles Public Service Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to honor Evelyn Bowles’ lifetime commitment to public service and education, as well as to encourage those underrepresented in the ranks of elected officials, to participate in government, to participate in the electoral process, and to seek public office.

The recipient shall: be enrolled as a full-time student at SIUE with a GPA of at least 3.0; reside in Jersey, Madison or St. Clair counties, Illinois; demonstrate financial need; have the characteristics of those who are underrepresented within the ranks of elected officials; demonstrate a strong interest in participating in government at any level; demonstrate involvement in government, or public and/or community service activities.

Based on these criteria, the Department of Political Science Student Awards and Recognition Committee recommends a winner to the Department of Political Science faculty for consideration. The faculty vote to select the winner.
