Community Engagement Award in Anthropology

The Community Engagement Award recognizes anthropology students who are working with communities or designated populations in an effort to contribute to individuals or society more broadly. Possible work to be considered would include volunteer activities with informal or formal community groups and not-for-profits at local, regional, state, national or international levels, and private or public institutions or organizations (e.g., museums, public agencies, private charitable foundations). Work may be intensive involvement with a single organization or institution or participation with many different groups.

Community engagement may also include projects or assignments as part of university courses, service learning, or travel-study. Volunteer or service activities associated with student organizations, or volunteering done completely independently will also be considered. The community engagement activities can relate to any of the four fields of anthropology (cultural, linguistic, archaeology, biological), and should adhere to anthropological ethics and the SIUE Department of Anthropology’s program goals, in particular understanding and appreciating human diversity.
