Black Faculty and Staff Association Scholarship

The Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) would like to offer (2) student scholarships for the Spring 2020 semester in the amount of $750 each to current students who embody the mission and vision of the BFSA. One scholarship will be awarded to a first year student and the 2nd scholarship will be awarded to a returning or graduate student. BFSA is excited to provide monetary support to selected students.

To be eligible for consideration for the BFSA Scholarship Award, the applicant must meet the following criteria and requirements:
1. Student must meet admissions requirements for SIUE and be enrolled for full-time undergraduate study for the Spring term.
2. Applicants with fewer than twelve college semester hours earned:
a. must have at least a high school GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0=A.
3. Applicants with twelve or more college semester hours earned:
a. must have completed at least one term as a full-time college student.
b. must have at least a college GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0.

The scholarship awards will be applied to the student’s University account for the semester and is considered by the Office of Student Financial Aid in evaluating the overall financial aid package. Should the amount combined with other awards or payments result in a credit balance on the account, a refund check will be applied by the Bursar’s Office.

Applications will be evaluated by the BFSA Scholarship Committee based on an essay written by the applicant, co-curricular activities (e.g. clubs, sports, etc.), honors and awards, financial need, work history, and volunteerism.
